New fun in the North End

The Coast’s Year in Review issue last month had its “annual round-up of the opening and closings that changed the small business landscape” for 2017.

It’s no surprise to those of us who are die-hard fans of the area north of the commons that, of the 103 businesses which opened around HRM, Halifax’s north end boasted 21 of them. While we were very sad to see some long-time popular spots close their doors (goodbye Coho, Greek Village and Abode), the net gain was the greatest overall when compared to the other areas of the city listed in the article.

We are always touting that Q Lofts is smack-dab in the middle of a wonderful neighbourhood. So, we wanted to say welcome to the following businesses—you’re making a walkable neighbourhood even more amazing:

Water & Bone on Charles
Chef Jamie and team are cooking up some amazing ramen. Don’t overlook the appetizers. So good.

Bar Kismet on Agricola
Their superb menu changes based on availability of ingredients. When the scallops are there, have them.

Spirit Spa
Ahhhhh. Need we say more? An amazing space designed by RHAD.

Fox Hill Market & Deli on Robie
Great spot to get Beck Farms’ bacon & cheddar sausage if you happen to miss the North End market on the weekend.

These are only four of the 21 – welcome to the other small businesses!

14 Bells Art Gallery
Chain Yard Urban Cidery
Church’s Barbershop
Compass Distilling
Espresso 46
Lola and Odin
Midnight Oil Print & Design House
Nearby Planet
Octopus Skateboards
Third Earth Collectibles
Vandal Doughnuts
