News Release: Public art installation at North End Halifax Q Lofts to be unveiled
The piece, entitled “Questions of Time and Settling” incorporates rough stone, flowers and foliage, lighting, and polished steel mirrors, etched with poetry specifically about Halifax’s North End, to create a piece of art in keeping with the eclectic nature of the neighbourhood and the contemporary design of Q Lofts.
Local public space group, co*lab, issued a call for submissions last autumn on behalf of the developer. All submissions were reviewed by an adjudication panel comprised of local residents, businesses, and experts. POLYCORP VP of Development, Louis Lemoine, says, “It’s been impressive to see Josh’s proposal come to life over these past months. The sculpture has an ethereal quality, especially at night when it is lit. It needs to be seen up close to fully appreciate the detail he put into this piece of art.”
Artist Josh Collins holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies along with a Masters of Architecture Degree, both from Dalhousie University. For the past five years, Collins has been living and working specifically in the North End, actively engaged in local community design/build projects created from both artistic and construction points of view.
“Halifax’s North End has evolved into an exciting and vibrant neighbourhood over the past number of years. Outside of providing a place for people to live, we felt we had a responsibility to contribute to the community as a whole,” states POLYCORP principal Peter Polley. “That’s why we are very pleased to bring this public art to Roberts Street for everyone to enjoy.”
The short ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2015. Anyone interested in attending is welcome to do so.
